I hate not being able to sleep.
I forgot to post a link to Rachael’s blog. She posted a slide show of their trip to Missouri for her brother’s wedding.
I entered Jami in the top 10 last night. It was apparently ruled a legal play. I told her last night that we are going to talk about her on here and she can’t do anything about it because she can’t comment
And I thought I should tell you, just in case you run across this problem, that lots of cats, plus a large box of packing peanuts left out overnight, do not mix well.
This is from my notes on Herb’s sermon Sunday. Too often, pastors are afraid to teach on the book of Revelation, because they are afraid of misinterpreting it, or they just don’t understand it. Our pastor is not afraid, and has preached on it many times.
6:1 I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2 I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
Some people have thought this is Jesus on the white horse, but it is not. Who’s purpose is to imitate Christ? This is the antichrist, in his attempt to have dominion over the earth. He seeks to deceive people into thinking he is Christ. But Herb pointed out something Sunday morning that I had not noticed before. The antichrist has a bow in this scripture, but he has no arrows. He does not have the real power that Jesus has.
3 When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4 Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.
The red horse brings division. War – not only between countries, but even between family members. This scripture takes place in the mid-tribulation period. At that time, the Christians will have already been taken from the earth. The Holy Spirit will no longer be restraining the hatred in the world. And it will get bad. The hatred we see today between different ethnic groups is only the tip of the iceberg.
5 When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6 Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!”
The black horse brings deprivation. A day’s wage will buy only one day’s food supply, and nothing more. This is one day’s supply for one person. For those who are providing for a family, the wage will not buy enough food for everyone. There will be widespread starvation.
But the oil and wine, meaning the supply of luxury food for the wealthy, will not be harmed. The poor will get poorer and the rich will get richer. Do we see any indication of that today? The majority of rich people will think that they have everything under control, and can provide for themselves. In the end, they will see how wrong they were, in not letting God have control. The enemy, Satan, will have them right where he wants them.
7 When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8 I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
This “pale” horse brings death. The Greek word , chlooros, used for pale, actually means a ghastly yellowish-green color.
chlooros, chloora, chlooron……1. green: Mark 6:39
2. yellowish, pale: Rev 6:8
It is the same root from which we get the word chlorophyll. One-fourth of the population will die. That means over one billion people. Who will bury that many bodies? So bodies will be decaying in the streets and reach a ghastly yellow-green color. Notice that Hades follows. These people are not saved, and will spend eternity in hell.
9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed.
There will be people who are saved during the tribulation. Some will remember what they had been taught before the tribulation and finally realize it was true. But of those saved during that time, the majority will die before Jesus comes back for the 1000 year reign on earth. Those who do not die by starvation or some type of accident, will be beheaded at the guillotine.
In the scripture, those Christians who have died are being told to wait a little longer for God to punish those who caused their deaths. There are still more Christians who must die first.
12 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13 and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. 14 The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.
In recent years, earthquakes seem to have been on the increase. They are happening closer together, just as the labor pains of a woman. But none have been as bad as the one that will come, spoken of in this verse. Matthew Henry’s Commentary takes this to be a political thing, but we take it literally. The sun being blacked out and the moon being blood red, seem to suggest a volcanic eruption. Ashes in the atmosphere would produce this effect. We do not know what might happen to make stars fall from the sky, but certainly we can’t rule out something like meteors hitting earth. If huge chunks of meteors hit earth, that could also cause the dust in the atmosphere that would black out the sun. Herb suggested that the sky rolling up like a scroll could be atmospheric compression from a nuclear explosion. Something will happen with a great enough force to shake every mountain and island loose from their places.
15 Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?” NIV
In times of disaster, people look to government leaders to take care of them. Look what happened with the people who were displaced by recent hurricanes. But during this tribulation, even the government leaders will be hiding in caves, wishing to die! That’s how terrible this punishment will be. And did you catch what they say here? They KNOW who they are trying to hide from – the lamb who sits on the throne! They know it is God, but still refuse to accept Him. They would rather hide from God in fear, than run to Him in faith. Now that’s a hardened heart.
And this isn’t even close to the end. But already people are hiding, not wanting to face reality.
I don’t want anyone I love to have to go through the tribulation, and then spend eternity in Hell. We must be sure that we share God’s word with others – that Jesus Christ died on the cross, to pay the price for our sins, so that we may enter Heaven and spend eternity with God.
John 3:16-17…..16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. NIV
Rom 3:23-24…..23 For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet now God in his gracious kindness declares us not guilty. He has done this through Christ Jesus, who has freed us by taking away our sins. NLT
