Beth and Jeremy

Beth and Jeremy have discovered a new exciting game to play. When we are singing the hymns out of the hymnal in church, they will go to a different song and try to sing the words to the tune of whatever song is being played at the time. It’s quite challenging, and tonight they were cracking up laughing. Ethan….I’d like to hear you try to sing Amazing Grace to a different tune. Or maybe you could sing the Air Force song to the tune of Amazing Grace. Yeah….I’d be laughing at all of you.

Here’s Beth and Jeremy one Sunday night back in December. You just can’t trust these two

Beth and Jeremy

Last night I was sitting here at the computer, and the window right next to the desk just shattered. When Steve checked it out today in the daylight, he didn’t see anything that might have hit the window. The dogs jump against the windows all the time, and don’t break them. So we don’t have any idea what happened. Sure scared me, though.

We had a good service this morning. A man who is the retired pastor from a church down the street from us, preached this morning. He and our pastor are good friends. He had one message all prepared, but said he felt God tell him to preach something else. And it was good, and perfect for our congregation to hear.

After church, we went to eat at IHOP. We were several bites into the meal, when Beth held her fork up, looked at it, and said, “This has been in the mouths of hundreds of people.”   Steve told her he was pretty sure they had washed it between mouths.

Jerry’s sermon this morning was on seeking the Lord.

Isa 55:…..6 Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.  NIV

We will not always have the opportunity to seek Him. We need to do it while we still can.

Jer 29:13-14……13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  NIV

We won’t find Him if we are doing it half-heartedly. We must seek Him with our whole heart.

Ps 105:3……3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.  NIV

Christians should be happy people. And if we seek God, we will be happy. Church should be a happy place, where brothers and sisters in Christ gather to praise His name.

Ok….here’s a really good one:

Prov 28:5……5 Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand it fully. NIV

Those who seek God with all their hearts will understand. God is the one who gives wisdom.

Ps 34:10……10 Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will never lack any good thing.  NLT

When you truly are God’s child, He provides every good thing that you need. He will not let you do without what you need. He will provide.

Ps 69:5-7…… 6 O Lord God of the armies of heaven, don’t let me be a stumbling block to those who trust in you. O God of Israel, don’t let me cause them to be confused,  TLB

There is so much confusion in the world. People are confused about what to believe. Even those who call themselves Christian are sometimes confused about what the Bible says. But if you seek God with all your heart, and communicate with him constantly, He will clear up your confusion. Christians should not be confused about what the word of God says. And as Christians, we should not do things that would cause others to be confused. We should be the light that shows the way to Jesus.

Ps 9:10……10 Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.  NIV

What a promise! He promises that if you seek Him and know Him, he will never leave you or forsake you. He will always be there to show you the way. He will be there to comfort you when you need comfort.

Ezra 8:22-23……”The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him.”  NKJV

That one doesn’t really need an explanation. But it does have a companion scripture in the New Testament:

Rom 8:28……28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, NIV

If you need blessings, seek God.

Heb 11:5-6…… 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.  NKJV

Those who seek God must believe that Jesus is the son of God, who died to pay for our sins, must obey Him, and have faith that He will reward them for their obedience.

It’s simple. Humans are the ones that make it so complicated.

  2. I’m told you can sing “Amazing Grace” to “Peaceful Easy Fellin'” by the Eagles. One thing to try is singing the songs a syllable off. I can do with the Star Spangled Banner but it’s pretty fun to try with all sorts of songs. Haven’t tried it w/ Amazing Grace yet.
