How much progress have you made, Pilgrim?

This is a very interesting article:

Harry Reid’s Land Grab

Jer 33:3…..3’Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ NIV

Sunday night at church, we watched a movie: Pilgrim’s Progress. This is a new one, made in 2008. It was good.

At one point in the movie, that scripture above was partially quoted. It reminded me of a song I taught to all the Vacation Bible School kids one year…..that scripture set to music. I taught them sign language to the song, to perform for the parents on Family Night. That song has to be my favorite of all the songs we’ve done in the 13 years that I have been the VBS director.

“Call to me and I will answer you…” Pray. And when His children pray, God will answer. So many times we pray and think God doesn’t answer our prayers, but that’s simply not true. He answers…but many times it’s not the answer we want to hear. God is a parent that isn’t afraid to say no when it is in our best interest.

“…and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”  There are things that we don’t know. Yes…it’s true. We sometimes think we know everything, and that gets us into a lot of trouble. Humans take pride in being smart. But we aren’t nearly as smart as we think we are. The source of wisdom is God. He will give us wisdom and insight into his word, if we only ask Him.

Prov 2:6…..6 For the LORD gives wisdom , and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. NIV

The New King James Version says Jer 33:3 this way:

Jer 33:3…..3’Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ NKJV

Great and mighty things that we do not know. Yes, there just might be a few great and mighty things (truths of God) that we don’t know. After all, what human can fully understand the ways of God? But if we ask Him for wisdom, he will give it to us.

Rom 11:33-36…..33 Oh, what a wonderful God we have! How great are his riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his methods!

34 For who can know what the Lord is thinking? Who knows enough to be his counselor?

35 And who could ever give him so much that he would have to pay it back?

36 For everything comes from him; everything exists by his power and is intended for his glory. To him be glory evermore. Amen. NLT

God’s word is truth. His word is wisdom. And we are not wise if we think differently.

  1. Wow, I didn’t even know that there was a Pilgrim’s PRogress movie during 2008! Thanks for the head’s up! I wish to read that book one day…I hope. The only thing I have read of John Bunyan thus far is his work on the fear of God…it was good stuff!
