UPDATE 1:30 p.m…..Steve just called to say he’s back on the road again. The truck is fixed and it cost $202.

UPDATE 12:30 p.m….When Steve called and said he was broken down (the truck – not him) and we needed to pray, I posted and called Beth at work and told her to pray. It didn’t take long. He didn’t know what the problem was originally, but was able to find out. He’s fixed this problem before. So we got on the internet and searched for a Ford dealership. Found one in Fairfield and they had the part. So Steve, Gary, and Dustin piled in Gary’s car and headed to Fairfield. The part will be less than $200 and is easy to fix.

Our pastor always says that when something like this happens, we don’t know what might have happened further on down the road, that God saved us from by letting us experience a little inconvenience now. It could have saved him from having a wreck with an 18-wheeler. We’ll probably never know. But God doesn’t let anything happen to a Christian that doesn’t get His ok first. So we know God is always on top of things, even when we don’t know what will happen next.

We also don’t know whether or not this quick answer to prayer might be a testimony to someone else who is witnessing the prayer and then the answer. Maybe somebody needs to see God at work.

When he first called, my first thought was, “This is gonna cost a lot.” Then my second thought was, “I wonder what God’s got up His sleeve.” We have learned that when there’s a problem that looks like a huge one, God is going to come through….we just have to pray and then watch Him work. He did it again.

I never felt panicky. But I knew I had to ask people to pray, and then see what God was going to do.

He’s going to call me back when the truck is fixed – it’s a simple repair.

Oh, by the way, what would we do without the internet? Some say Al Gore invented the internet. I say God did.

UPDATE 11:20 a.m……We need prayer….Steve just called and said his truck broke down just outside Buffalo. We just had it worked on recently and it’s been running fine till now. He was hauling their testing trailer up to the Limestone plant. He does have 2 other guys with him – one was following in his car, so he’s not stuck. But we’ve spent about $2100 in the last month on fixing cars. We really can’t afford more car problems and a wedding.

We don’t do Halloween, so we are having a Fall Festival tonight at church. We have an alternative for our kids to enjoy while the rest of the world is celebrating things we believe Christians should not celebrate. I know some people will disagree with me, but we believe Halloween is a celebration of evil things that have no business in the life of a Christian. It is more than candy and costumes. While children who go trick-or-treating have no idea what else goes on on Halloween and all they want is candy, there are some very horrible, evil things that are practiced on Halloween.

Our pastor has taught on this many times, and several times we have watched a video on the origins of Halloween. It contains testimony of a man who, as a child, was forced to participate in the  sacrifice of a little girl. She was groomed to be the sacrifice – he was groomed to be the killer at 8 years old. We don’t want to participate in something that has its origins in trying to appease the demons. Satan loves for us to think there is nothing wrong with Halloween. He wants us to feel comfortably deceived into celebrating a day when some people sacrifice their own children to him.

1 Cor 10:18-22…….18 Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar? 19 Do I mean then that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.  NIV

Ps 119:104…….104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.  KJV

We’ll have lots of good food, lots of candy, and lots of fun. And lots of coffee for those of us struggling to stay awake. But we will do it in the name of God and not in the name of any demons, ghosts or goblins. They will have no part in our fun.

Now…for those who are still reading….please pray for my husband. He is on his way to the Limestone Generating Station in Jewett, Texas. That is about half way between Houston and Dallas. Hopefully, he will only be gone till tomorrow night. He hasn’t had much sleep in the last several nights. Now he is driving for about 3 hours and working on a smokestack that is about 550 feet in the air.

Steve tests the emissions at power plants, making sure they are within the guidelines set by the EPA. Emitting things the  EPA says not to emit is generally frowned upon  The Limestone plant is a coal burning power plant built many years ago by Houston Lighting and Power and (as best I can remember) a couple of other power companies. HL&P does not exist anymore. That’s who we both use to work for. Electric deregulation in Texas had some nasty side effects. He worked there almost 30 years, and I was there almost 10 before quitting to stay home and raise kids. When he was let go from that job in 2004 (downsizing comes from companies “reorganizing”), he went straight to work for QA Support – a testing company started by other Light Company people.

  1. That’s just sickening and disgusting about the sacrifice of a little girl! We also do not celebrate Halloween for those reasons, but I’ve never seen a video on it.
    Will pray for your husband!

  2. Thank you, very much. He found what the problem is, and is now searching for a Ford Dealership in that area to get the part. They may have to drive up to Fairfield to find the nearest dealership.

  3. Cindy, this Psalm came to my mind when I read the beginning of your post today.  Bless your hear!
In the next few weeks, probably in the past few weeks, too, you’re going to experience this “overwhelmed” feeling.  I know this because I have been the mother of the bride and even the groom.  When those feelings show up hang on to verse 2.
    Love and prayers!Paula
    CHAPTER 61
61:1 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, WHEN MY HEART IS OVERWHELMED: LEAD ME TO THE ROCK THAT IS HIGHT THAN I.61:3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.61:4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.61:5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.61:6 Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations.61:7 He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.61:8 So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

  4. Thanks, Paula. He has found the part and is on the way to get it. He called, and didn’t know what was wrong, and just said pray. So I started posting and calling people to ask for prayer. Within a few minutes he called me back and said he knew the problem….it  was just a matter of finding the part. So we searched on the internet and found a Ford dealership. God has provided everything, including the car the other guy had to go and get the part. He said it’s an easy fix. And it’s not terribly expensive….less than $200. Like our pastor says, “God is good….all the time.” It’s never convenient to break down, but we don’t know what kind of danger that might have kept him out of further on down the road. Thanks for the prayers! :heartbeat:

  5. Hi…just stopping by.  We too don’t celebrate Halloween for the exact same reasons.  I’m so thankful my girls are grown and I don’t have to deal with them wanting to participate in all the Halloween activities with their little friends.
RYC:  Yes, I often have people tell me that they thought of me when they saw something with the Pillsbury Doughboy…LOL.
    Praying for your husband!
    God Bless

  6. Cindy,
Your prayer request is posted, but it looks like the Lord has all ready answered it. Praise God. God bless you.

  7.:laugh:I’m late getting to you, Cindy. I am so thankful for God’s protection of Steve. :yes:And I believe God is protecting Brandon and Rachael in directing them to the right home. Are you feeling better now? You were having quite a lot of bad headaches there.(Or was it one long, bad one?) I am praying for you tonight before I head off to bed. :yes:Our church has the Harvest celebration, too. I really think that is great for the kids, and it is an outreach, too. :goodjob:I’m praying for B & R to find just the right home. God has it under control. Muchliest!! Carolyn

  8. Thanks, Carolyn. He knows just what we need.
Yes, the headache has gotten better. I have really bad arthritis in my neck, and I am almost certain that is what was causing that one long monster of a headache. My dad had the same thing, and had a headache every day for over 20 years. About 3 years ago, he had surgery to remove the disks and fuse 4 vertebrae together in his neck. He hasn’t had that kind of pain since. But the surgery is a killer. My rheumatologist said let’s put off surgery as long as possible. I second that!

  9. I don’t DO halloween either.  i hate it…always have.  holly took B over to a festival and that made him happy..that is all he needed.  then he gave out some candy here to the little trick or treaters…but halloween is evil and satan has made it to where it’s all just “fun” ~~ yeah right…the stores put the H junk right up next to the Chms stuff.  What a tragedy

  10. Cindy,
It is amazing how God works it all out!  We only need to remember that and trust him.  I know too often I forget and then start to get upset.  It is only when I turn my eyes to God and again trust.
I’m glad your husband is safe and his truck is all fixed!
